CONFERENCE 2008
The Hayes Conference Centre Swanwick Alfreton Derbyshire

The conference started on Friday 11th April with plenty of time to catch up with old friends and to meet new members in the bar.

Demonstrationsand lectures included;

  • An illustrated talk and ongoing demonstrations of articulating skeletons (a chicken and a cat) by special guest from the Netherlands, Henk Dikkema
  • Preparing a bind-up mannikin for a fox mask by John Hallet
  • Casting a Porpoise
  • Demonstrations on skinning mammals and birds including how to repair broken bones
  • The usual, and very entertaining, illustrated Historical talk by Dr Pat Morris, this year on the work of Walter Potter
  • Legal update from Kim McDonald
  • Health and Safety talk by Laurence Dowson

The Competitions included Best Bird, Best Mammal, Best Fish/Reptile, Best Game Head in both professional and amateur categories plus Best Artistic Interpretation of a Theme (this year 'Bird Brained'), Best Groundwork, Best Cased Exhibit and Best in Show.
