Choosing a Taxidermist
Taxidermy is Art
Just like commissioning a painting you would not go to someone by price alone.
We would like to think you would look at the varying standards of work and make your decision based on what you can afford and the style you like.
To support this, the guild has a Qualification system that credits member's work and is a competancy assurrance to customers.
You could ask your taxidermist if they have achieved any of the following Guild Qualifications.
QUALIFICATIONS IN ORDER OF HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT.
- Master Taxidermist This is the highest achievable award in the UK. Awarded to a particular field e.g. Birds, Fish, Mammals, Game Heads.
Only a hand full of taxidermists have achieved this prestigious award. - Higher Category Credit Three of these are needed in a particular field to achieve master status above.
- Specialist A specialist needs six standard credits in a particular field to achieve this status.
- Accredited Member This qualification is awarded to a taxidermist for being competent to do a range of species to an acceptable standard. The taxidermist has to obtain six Standard Credits in a range of fields.
- Standard Credit This qualification is awarded to a particular item for achieving an acceptable standard.
Your Taxidermist should be able to say they have achieved credits/Specalist/master in Birds /Mammals /Fish /Game Heads.
